Modio

Modio

Gridline Energy's technicians were losing time to clunky tools while working out in the field. I redesigned Modio to help them plan routes, capture evidence, and close out jobs directly on-site, even in demanding conditions. The tool streamlines daily operations and keeps critical job data accurate and accessible.

Field research

Research focused on the environments where technicians actually worked: low signal, bright sunlight, gloved hands, and constant task interruption. Designing for a comfortable desk would have produced a tool that failed the moment it left the office.

Those constraints shaped a compact information model that prioritized location, required evidence, safety checks, and offline confidence above everything else. Every element had to earn its place on a small screen used in difficult conditions.

Designing for the real world

I ran usability sessions on site rather than in a lab, watching technicians work through real jobs with the prototype in hand. Seeing the tool used with gloves and glare exposed problems no office test would have caught.

Those sessions pushed me toward larger targets, higher contrast, and interactions that tolerated interruption without losing progress. The product got tougher and simpler with every visit.
